Fr. William W. Santre

Very Reverend William Walter Santre T.O.R., of the Third Order Regular Franciscans of the Province of the Immaculate Conception, USA died on Saturday, 9 November 2019 in Roaring Spring, Pennsylvania.

He was born on 8 March 1934 in Maspeth (Queens) NY. He was the son of the late William and Charlotte (Conklin) Santre.

Fr. William entered the Franciscan Community on September 5, 1952 and professed Solemn Vows on 17 July 1957. He was ordained to the priesthood on 3 June 1961 at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, Washington, DC.

Father William served the Church and the Franciscan community in many capacities, including high school instructor at the Franciscan Preparatory Seminary, Hollidaysburg, PA and at Cathedral High School, St. Cloud, MN, Parochial Vicar at St. Veronica’s Church, NY, and Parochial Vicar and Pastor at St. Anthony’s Church, Johnstown, PA, Parochial Vicar at St. John Gualbert, Johnstown, PA, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Altoona, PA, and Pastor of St. Anthony of Padua Church, Windber, PA. Father William served the Province of the Immaculate Conception as Minister Provincial, Vicar Provincial, Provincial Councilor, and Provincial Econome. At the time of his death he was residing at St. Bernardine Monastery, Hollidaysburg, PA.

Fr. William is predeceased his parents. He is survived by a cousin, Sr. Barbara Worn, SND and his Franciscan Community.

Funeral Mass was celebrated on 15 November 2019 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Altoona, Pennsylvania. Very Reverend Father Frank Scornaienchi, T.O.R., Minister Provincial, was the principal celebrant and Very Reverend Father J. Patrick Quinn, T.O.R. was the homilist. Fr. William was buried in the Community Cemetery in Hollidaysburg.
