Brother Didacus R. Wilson

Brother Didacus R. Wilson T.O.R., of the Third Order Regular Franciscans of the Province of the Immaculate Conception, USA died on Saturday, 3 March 2021 in Northern Virginia.

He was born to Deanel Wilson and Irene Stepniak Wilson on 25 September 1954 in Verdun, France and was given the name Richard at Baptism.

Brother Didacus entered the Franciscan Community in September 1980 and professed Solemn Vows in September 1986 at Saint Thomas More House of Studies in Washington, DC

For most of his religious life Brother Didacus served the Church and the Franciscan community as an instructor in English and American Literature at Bishop Ireton High School, Alexandria Virginia.  From 1990 – 1996 he was a Professor of English at The Catholic University of America, from which he earned a Doctorate in American Literature in American Literature.  Brother Didacus also served the Province as Director of Studies (1988-1992) and Local Minister (1994-1996).

Brother Didacus was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease at an early age and, despite many serious medical setbacks, lived a very energetic and full life. He was passionate about teaching and had a deep appreciation for the arts.  He was beloved by his students and an inspiration to his confreres, co-workers, and all who knew him.

Brother Didacus is predeceased his parents.  He is survived by his brothers Robert, Dennis, Patrick, and Timothy, their families, and many co-workers and former students and friends.

A Funeral Mass will celebrated on 9 March 2021 at 10:30 AM at Saint Bernardine Monastery, Hollidaysburg, PA  There will be one hour of Visitation prior to the Mass. Very Reverend Father Frank Scornaienchi, T.O.R., Minister Provincial, will be the principal celebrant and Very Reverend J. Patrick Quinn, T.O.R. will be the homilist.  Interment will follow in the Community Cemetery at Saint Bernardine Monastery.
