Fr. Sushil Prawin Tiru

Rev. Fr. Sushil Prawin Tiru, TOR  a priest of St. Francis Province, Ranchi, India returned to the Heavenly Father on 7th January, 2026 at the age of 39.

Fr. Sushil Prawin Tiru, TOR, was born on 19 January 1987 to Mr. Pius Tiru and Mrs. Virginia, into a Catholic family of the Parish of Bichna in the Diocese of Khunti, Jharkhand. He is the fourth of six children and has four sisters and one brother.

Fr. Sushil studied in RC High School Gaurbera.   Thereafter he joined the Order in 2005 at Assisi Bhavan, Dorma. He did his intermediate from NIOS, New Delhi. He entered into Novitiate at Sacred Heart Novitiate, Babumahal under the direction of Rev. Fr. Jose Kulangara, TOR and made his First profession on 31st May, 2009.

Fr. Sushil pursued his philosophical studies at St. Albert College, Ranchi, from 2009 to 2012, during which time he also completed his graduation at St. Xavier’s College, Ranchi. In 2012, he did his regency at Assisi Bhavan, Dorma. Thereafter, he enrolled at St. Xavier’s College and completed his Bachelor of Education in 2014.

He made his Solemn Vows on 23rd May 2015. He was ordained a deacon by Archbishop Bernard Moras in Bangalore on 29th June 2017, and was subsequently ordained a priest on 21st January 2018 at Bichna by Bishop Binay Kandulna, Bishop of the Diocese of Khunti.

After his ordination he was appointed as in-charge of RC Mission School, Gaurbera. Later he worked as Headmaster of RC Middle School, Behrinbasa and Assistant Parish Priest and youth animator of St. Joseph Church Behrinbasa. In January 2022 he was assigned to Vinay Bhavan, Bichna, and in-charge of R.C. Middle School, Pandra. From 10th May, 2025 he was residing at Assisi Bhavan, Dorma and he was serving as in – charge of  of R.C. Middle School, Pandra.

On 7th January, 2026 he was returning from Torpa to Dorma along with two companions – Fr. Johnson, a Salvatorian priest and a family man, Mr. Sunil Bhengra in a car. The car met with a tragic accident approximately 400 meters away from Dorma Friary. Fr. Sushil and Mr. Sunil died on the spot and Fr. Johnson passed away after a week.

During his Religious and priestly life, he was instrumental in guiding the next generation with wisdom and patience. He worked diligently in the service of the youth and students.  Fr. Sushil will be remembered as a man of prayer and a tireless advocate for the poor. His gentle spirit and friendly approach will be always remembered.
