Fr. Seamus J. Corcoran

Reverend Seamus J. Corcoran, T.O.R., of the Third Order Regular Franciscans of the Province of the Immaculate Conception, USA died on Saturday, 13 June 2020 in Carayao, Paraguay, S.A.

He was born on 13 March 1936 in Fairymount, Castlerea, Ireland.  He was the son of the late John and Mary Ann Corcoran.

Fr. Seamus entered the Franciscan Community in September 1956 and professed Solemn Vows on 27 June 1962. He was ordained to the priesthood on 18 June 1967 in County Mayo, Ireland.

Father Seamus served the Church and the Franciscan community as Instructor and Librarian at James Barry Robinson, High School, Norfolk, VA and Cathedral High School, St. Cloud, MN.  In 1971 he volunteered to serve in the Province’s mission in Paraguay, S.A. where he ministered with great devotion and zeal until the time of his death.  He was instrumental in the growth of the mission and saw it grow into of the Vice Province of Saint Anthony of Padua.

Fr. Seamus is predeceased his parents.  He is survived by three brothers and a sister, all of whom reside in Ireland.

A Funeral Mass was celebrated on 13 June 2020 at the Church of the Three Kings, Carayao, S.A.  The Minister Provincial of the Vice Province of St. Anthony of Padua, Very Reverend Father Federico Gayoso, TOR was the principal celebrant. According to Fr. Seamus’ wishes, his remains were laid to rest at the foot of the bell tower of the Church of the Three Kings in Carayao where he served many years as the parish priest.
