Corpus Izquierdo Barrero, was born on June 10, 1941 in San Pedro Manrique, Soria. He is the son of Ruperto Izquierdo Morales and Eufemia Barrero Castellanos. He was baptized on June 15, 1941 and confirmed on May 2, 1947. He was born into a family rich in vocations to the service of the Church: religious men and women of contemplative and apostolic life and a brother who was a permanent deacon and a missionary for many years.
He received the Franciscan habit on July 13, 1958 in Vico. After the year of novitiate, in the sanctuary of Our Lady of Cura, he made his temporary profession on July 29, 1959. He was solemnly professed in Rome on June 13, 1965 and was ordained a deacon in Rome in 1966. On August 13, 1967, in the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Vico, he was ordained a priest by Bishop Ángel Hidalgo of Jaca.
He studied the Humanities in Vico and La Porciúncula and obtained the title of Higher Baccalaureate (letters) at the “Ramón Llull” Institute in Palma in 1960. At the Pontifical University “Angelicum” in Rome, he graduated in Philosophy and Theology in 1963. In June 1971, he graduated in Psychopedagogy.
He was Master of Novices in 1972 and 1973, the year in which for the first time the Novitiate followed what was established in the Pontifical Document “Renovationis Causam”, and from 1973 to 1975, he was a member of the Fraternity of the Sto. Niño de Cebú of Madrid as treasurer.
From 1973 to 1977 he was Provincial Definitor and, during this period, in July 1975 he was assigned to Mexico as Master of Novices of the first novitiate held in the Commissariat.
At the General Chapter of 1977, he was elected Vicar General of the Order, a position he held for six years. In August 1983, he was sent again to Mexico as curate of the Parish of Divine Providence of Moctezuma. And in the 1985 Chapter, he was elected Provincial Custos, Master of Theologians and local Minister of the Fraternity of Saint Francis of Madrid. In 1989, he was assigned to the Fraternity of San Francisco de Palma as Vicar of the Fraternity and Rector of the Basilica. And in 1997, he was assigned to the Fraternity of La Porciúncula as person in charge of the Church, of the Hospedería and Parish Solidarity of the parish of Pil.larí.
In 2001, he was assigned to Rome to the Fraternity of SS. Cosmas and Damian and as First Counselor and General Secretary. At the end of the next General Chapter, he returned to Spain and was assigned to the Santo Niño Parish of Cebu. In the Provincial Congregation of 2009, he was assigned to the Fraternity-Parish of San Francisco de Asís in Madrid as Parish Priest. In 2013, he was assigned to the Porziuncula Fraternity and in the Provincial Congregation of 2017 he was assigned to the Provincial Infirmary.
Father Corpus was a religious deeply convinced of the originality of the penitential Franciscan charism of the TOR. He helped many religious of the Province and our contemplative sisters to learn about the history and spirituality of the Order. With great dedication to the accompaniment and spiritual direction of consecrated people, he preached numerous spiritual exercises and formation days.
Due to an intestinal complication that caused internal bleeding, he was taken to the hospital and called by Sister Death on the afternoon of July 8, expiring at the time of receiving the holy anointing at the hands of the Provincial Minister. On Monday, July 10, the funeral and burial took place in the cemetery of Palma de Mallorca, and the following day in the afternoon, the funeral in the Church of Our Lady of the Angels of the Porziúncola in Palma de Mallorca.
