Fr. Jaume Puigserver Capellà was born in Algaida, Mallorca, on November 28, 1942, the son of the late Jaime Puigserver Sastre and the late Margarita Capellà Sastre. He was baptized on December 5, 1942, in the Parish of Algaida and received the sacrament of confirmation on May 17, 1951.
He received the Franciscan habit on August 19, 1962, and, after completing his novitiate year at the Sanctuary of Nuestra Señora de Cura, made his temporary profession on August 20, 1963. Between December 17, 1966, and May 20, 1967, he received the minor orders. He made his solemn profession on December 8, 1968, at La Porciúncula, was ordained subdeacon on December 23, 1968, and deacon on March 23, 1969. He was ordained to the priesthood on June 21, 1969, at the Diocesan Seminary of Mallorca by Bishop Rafael Álvarez Lara, then serving as Bishop of the Diocese.
He pursued his studies in the humanities at La Porciúncula, completed his courses in philosophy at La Porciúncula and Palma, and studied theology at La Porciúncula. In February 1974, he received the title of Assistant Professor of Arts by the University of the Balearic Islands.
From 1969 to 1970, he was assigned to the College of Palma as Spiritual Director, and in 1974 he was entrusted with the same responsibility at the College of Inca. He was also appointed a member of the Provincial Vocations Commission. On September 17, 1974, he was named Vicar-Economus of Búger, and on November 12, he was confirmed as Parish Priest. In 1975 and 1976, he obtained the certification to teach Religion, completing the DEI training courses in Huesca and Ávila.
At the 1977 Provincial Chapter, he was elected Vicar of the Fraternity of Inca. On July 15, 1980, he was appointed Parish Priest of St. James Parish in Alcudia for one year. In 1981, with the creation of the Fraternity of Campanet, he was named local Minister and Parish Priest. In 1984, he was appointed Archpriest of the Lluc region, and at the 1985 Provincial Chapter he was re-elected local Minister of the Campanet Fraternity.
In June 1988, he was appointed Parish Priest of St. Mary Major Parish in Inca and Archpriest of the area. He also collaborated in prison ministry at the Palma Penitentiary. He was assigned to the Fraternity of Inca and continued serving as Parish Priest of St. Mary Major. At the 1997 Chapter, he was appointed local Minister of the Fraternity of St. Francis of Inca, and at the 2001 Chapter he was named Provincial Councilor and member of the Commission for Parishes and Conventual Churches, serving as Provincial Delegate for Pastoral Affairs. He was assigned to the Fraternity of St. Bonaventure in Llucmajor as Vicar of the Fraternity, Parish Priest of St. Michael’s Parish in Llucmajor and of S’Estanyol, and Moderator of the Pastoral Unit.
On May 13, 2005, he was elected Provincial, and at the 2005 Provincial Chapter he was appointed local Minister of the Fraternity, Parish Priest of Llucmajor, and Head of Pastoral Ministry at the Llucmajor College.
At the 2009 Provincial Chapter, he was named Provincial Assistant of the Secular Franciscan Order (OFS) of the Balearic Islands. He had also served at various times as local assistant to several OFS fraternities in Mallorca.
In April 2012, while serving as Provincial Vicar, he was appointed Minister Provincial following the resignation of Fr. Tomeu Pont due to health reasons, and he continued to reside in the Convent of St. Bonaventure in Llucmajor. At the Provincial Chapter of July 2013, he was canonically elected Minister Provincial and concurrently assumed the office of local Minister of the Llucmajor Fraternity. In the subsequent Chapter of April 2017, he was re-elected to the same office, faithfully serving until the 2021 Chapter. At that Chapter, he was appointed local Minister of the Llucmajor Fraternity and Rector of the Sanctuary of Cura. Thus, Fr. Jaume Puigserver rendered nine years of dedicated service as Minister Provincial.In 2019, he was appointed Spiritual Director of the Diocesan Seminary by Sebastià Taltavull Anglada, the Bishop of Mallorca.
On June 1, 2025, at the conclusion of the Sunday Eucharistic celebration in the Sanctuary of Nuestra Señora de Cura, he suffered a serious accident, stumbling between the altar and the presider’s chair and sustaining a severe head injury that resulted in an irreversible cerebral hemorrhage. On June 4, he was called home by Sister Death at the age of 82, after 61 years of religious profession and 55 years of priestly ministry.
He was laid to rest on June 5 at the Llucmajor cemetery, and his funeral Mass was celebrated on June 11 in the Parish of St. Michael in Llucmajor, presided over by the Bishop of Mallorca and concelebrated by the Provincial Minister, numerous religious, and diocesan priests of Mallorca.
