Father Juan Carlos Cáceres Balbuena

On October 10, 2022, at the age of 64, Fr. Juan Carlos Cáceres Balbuena was visited by Sister Death after 16 days of intensive care due to complications related to diabetes.

He was born on June 24, 1958, in the city of Asunción, the 5th of 10 children born to Mr. Sergio Cáceres Leiva and Mrs. Deolinda Balbuena Ovelar.

In 1984 he began his journey with the TOR Franciscans, accompanied by Fr. Luigi Ceresoli, TOR in his vocational discernment, residing in the San Gregorio de San Estanislao seminary. On January 26, 1985, he professed temporary vows in a Mass presided by Fr. José Angulo Quilis, TOR, minister general at that time, in the parish of Cristo Redentor in the city of Coronel Oviedo. On March 3, 1990, Fr. Luigi Tosiani, TOR, provincial commissary at that time, received his perpetual vows in the parish of Niño Jesús de Praga. He was ordained a deacon by Bishop Felipe Santiago Benítez on May 15, 1991.

He was ordained a priest by Bishop Demetrio Aquino on the 11th of December 1993 in the parish of Santa Elena in the city of Santa Elena de la Cordillera, assuming the position of parochial vicar in the parish of Neustra de la Asunción in the city of Hernandarias until 1997. He was parish priest of the parish of Tres Reyes in the Carayao city from 1997 to 2002, parochial vicar in the parish of Niño Jesús de Praga from 2004 to 2006, parish priest of the parish of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción – Hernandarias between 2011 and 2016 and finally parish priest of the parish of San Francisco de Asís in the city of Incarnation between 2019 to 2021.

He served several years in the formation of seminarians in the Saint Anthony of Padova Vice-Province, serving as a postulant formator from 2004 to 2006 in the San Francisco de Asís fraternity in Asunción, then postulant and post-novice formator at the San Serafín seminary in the city ​​of Lambaré between 2007 and 2009, master of novices in 2010 and trainer of aspirants in 2017 and 2018.

He dedicated a period of his life to teaching at the Instituto Superior Salesiano de Estudios Filosóficos, at the Universidad Católica Nuestra Señora de la Asunción – Hernandarias campus and Itapúa campus.

He was characterized by his humility, simplicity and joy, paternal and caring attitude, he was the owner of a great intellectual capacity and a great historical memory, capable of remembering moments, faces and names.

The funeral Mass was held in the parish of Niño Jesús de Praga on October 10, 2022, on the following day, October 11, he was buried in the TOR Franciscan cemetery, located in the Convent of San Gregorio in the city ​​of San Estanislao.
