According to a statement from the Holy See Press Office from 05.09.2020, on 3 October 2020, after celebrating Holy Mass privately at the Tomb of Saint Francis in Assisi, the Holy Father, Pope Francis, will sign the new Encyclical, Fratelli tutti (“All Brothers”) on fraternity and social friendship. The Vatican has also announced that this Encyclical will be promulgated to the entire world on the Feast of Saint Francis. Let us prepare ourselves to welcome the new encyclical by reflecting on the importance of renewing the sense of fraternity among all individuals and peoples of the Earth, and the opportunities we now have to develop social friendships that will enable us to build a more fraternal and just society. As Christians we recall the words of our Lord: “You all are brothers” (Mt 23:8), inviting his disciples to honor each other’s dignity. As Franciscans we remember the extraordinary spiritual insight of St. Francis who was able to honor all creatures as brothers and sisters, children of the same Creator. Let this Encyclical encourage us to better live out these core values of our identity and mission as TOR Franciscans!
